TEENS MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR OUR MILITARY FAMILIES = Page Under Construction
We are pleased to announce that our Community Service Project is to support the service men/women and their families for their dedication to protecting our freedoms. For the thousands and thousands of military families living overseas on military bases, the cost of living is extremely high. In Japan, for example, a bag of potatoes costs over $10. We'd like to do our part by provding them with ways to help save money while they are overseas. We will be collecting EXPIRED manufacturer coupons. We also will be collecting NON-food/toiletry CURRENT coupons and using those to create CARE packages for families left here in the USA while the parent(s) are deployed as well as CARE packages for patients at Veterans Administration Hospitals.
Did you know that while stationed overseas, military service members and their families shop at what is called a Commissary. This is their grocery store. And, the Commissary overseas will accept manufacturer coupons that are up to SIX MONTHS past the expiration date printed on the coupons. Please join us in supporting our military, their families and ultimately our own families by helping others.
Here are some details of our project. We will update as we get new information:
What types of coupons are you collecting?
*Expired Food Manufacturer Coupons - Must be within 30 days of expiration to allow time for us to sort and mail to our recipients
*Expired NON-Food Manufacturer Coupons - Must be within 30 days of expiration to allow time for us to sort and mail to our recipients
*CURRENT personal hygiene/toiletry Manufacturer Coupons - Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Deodorant, Body Wash, etc. (these will be used to purchase and prepare CARE packages for active military and veterans)
Where do I send my coupons?
Please contact us for mailing address - [email protected]
Do you accept monetary donations? We can accept checks but they must be written payable to:
* American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 703 (Parma Heights)
* American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 572 (Parma)
The cost of shipping the coupons is HUGE and we welcome any financial donations to offset the shipping costs. Since we are just two teens doing community service, we are NOT recognized by the government as a "charitable organization" therefore this question must be answered two ways. If you would like to add a dollar or two (cash) into your package/envelope of coupons we would sincerely appreciate your generosity as we will use the money for shipping coupons to our partnered organizations. The two organizations we have partnered with so far are:
* American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 703 (Parma Heights, Ohio)
* American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 572 (Parma, Ohio)
* Coups For Troops: The Carolinas
PLEASE DO NOT SEND CHECKS OR MONEY ORDERS WRITTEN PAYABLE TO MARIA AND CAITLYN TOTH. The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will use 100% of the monetary donations to cover the cost they will incur while packaging and shipping the coupons to the military families.
What do I need to do before I mail them?
Please cut the coupons and sort them into the THREE types above. We suggest you put them in either envelopes or Ziploc bags labeled (non food exp, food exp, current personal hygiene)
Do overseas commissaries and PXs really accept expired coupons?
It's true. Commissaries overseas will accept expired coupons up to 6 months past their expiration date. Please note: Military families stationed in Alaska or Hawaii, although considered an "overseas move" by the US military, cannot use expired coupons.
What happens after you receive my coupons?
We have partnered (so far) with two organizations who mail boxes of coupons to the actual military bases for the service men/women and their families. We will send all of our coupons to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 703 and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 572. They will then distribute the coupons to military bases across the globe - WORLDWIDE. They will also provide Coops For Troops: The Carolinas with ample supply to distribute to individual families located worldwide in all branches of military service. Due to national security, we cannot post what military bases we send to specifically but will keep you up to date as to when and what countries our shipments go out as our project progresses.
Have you received my envelope/package of coupons?
Due to the overwhelming amount of mail we will receive, there is no way for us to locate a particular pack of coupons. If you are concerned about your coupons reaching us, you may want to add delivery confirmation to your postage.
Will I have to mail the coupons or can I drop them off?
We anticipate churches, businesses and other organizations across the country setting up drop off locations (they will in turn mail to us) and we will post these as we are made aware of them. As with our past projects, we did not always know about local towns across the USA conducting collections for us so we also recommend staying tuned to your local news stations.
Why don't I just send my coupons directly to your recipients?
We keep the information of our recipients confidential for personal and military security reasons. We will post what organizations we provide our coupons to however, we cannot disclose specific military bases or family names.
Can US troops use expired Canadian coupons?
Unfortunately, US commissaries will not accept Canadian coupons. There is also no program acknowledged by the Canadian Forces that accepts expired coupons.
We hope you will join us and honor those who are honoring us by protecting us. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have using the form below or email us at: [email protected]
